Pollards Mill is a wonderful place. Beautiful, reasonably priced, exceptionally clean, quiet, safe, out-of-the-way but close-in to anything you want to see in Barbados. (You do need a rental car). The owner lives on site, but the carriage house is very private. We were warmly received, shared an evening out listening to jazz & drank wine with the owner, yet never felt that our privacy was compromised. The interior of the carriage house is tastefully appointed with soft yellow walls, white trim, soft blue gauze curtains, and tiled floors. Though there is AC, there are louvered & screened windows that let in the nice trade winds. Along with ceiling fans, we were very comfortable without the AC. The master bedroom is very large with two large closets and a sitting area. The bed was wonderful! The master bath is huge. The walk-in fully tiled shower is big enough for a small party if one were so inclined. You can drink the tap water w/o treating it. We fixed most of our meals in the kitchen (we found the fish at Payne's Bay on the west coast the best with fresh daily catches – yellow fin, flying fish, mahi-mahi, red snapper). We had plenty of cold Banks beer in the full-sized refrigerator. The living room area is part of a great room with double-dutch doors that open to a spacious patio. We spent most evenings drinking rum punch on the patio, watching the exotic birds, laughing & reminiscing about our day's adventures, and petting Murphy, the resident Black Lab. Murphy is taught to not bother visitors, but as lab owners ourselves, we adopted him for our furry friend of the week. The well-manicured grounds are open for strolling. The pool is available, though we found our trips to the beaches sufficient to meet our swimming needs. A rental car is a must. A few miles south is our favorite beach, Cave Bay. But, staying at Pollards really opens up so many great adventures on the south and east shores to picturesque beaches that are everything you would expect on a Carribean vacation. We had spent the first week in Holetown, and, though it provides easy access along the west coast using the very affordable and efficient public transportation, we found the west coast was still not inaccessible by rental car from Pollards. (We felt safer at Pollards, too. Where we used room safes and locked our doors in Holetown, we didn't feel it necessary at Pollards).  In conclusion, we will stay at Pollards on our next trip to Barbados, & bring friends, without equivocation!
